Frequently Asked Questions
Hemp is a variety of the Cannabis Sativa plant species that is grown specifically for the industrial and pharmaceutical uses of its derived products. Although Cannabis and Hemp both derive from the same species, Cannabis Sativa, and contain the psychoactive component tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), they are two distinct strains with different and unique phytochemical compositions. Hemp has lower concentrations of THC and higher concentrations of Cannabidiol (CBD), which decreases or eliminates its psychoactive effects.
Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a non-psychotropic substance of the cannabis plant with huge therapeutic benefits. Researchers are currently studying the effects of CBD on a wide range of conditions, such as chronic pain, insomnia, anxiety, epilepsy, dementia and more. Extensive preclinical research and clinical studies have shown that CBD has strong antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, antidepressant, anti-psychotic, anticancer and neuroprotective properties.
People find CBD useful for many medical conditions, which have not responded to conventional treatments. New conditions, that CBD can help treat, are being discovered every day. However, the most common uses of CBD are for the treatment of chronic pain, MS, anxiety, and epilepsy.
Cannabidιol (CBD) will not make you high. It has many health benefits, without producing the psychoactive, “euphoric” effect of THC. “Relaxing but not intoxicating” is how some people have described its effect.
The use of CBD is absolutely safe. It does not create intoxicating or psychoactive effects, it does not affect thought and concentration, while it is proven to help in many pathological conditions and contribute to the homeostasis of the body and the strengthening of the immune system.
Terpenes are a large and diverse class of organic compounds, produced by a variety of plants. They have a strong odor and protect the plants that produce them, by deterring their herbivore «enemies» and by attracting useful parasites in order to fight them. They are responsible for the typical aroma of the different plants and flowers and are the primary constituents of the essential oils.
Medical cannabis and Hemp has been legal in Greece since 2017. The legislation states that since Hemp contains the compound Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in percentage less than 0,2 % it is legal. All the other Cannabinoids in the plant are non-psychoactive and therefore also legal.
CBD comes from the Cannabis plant. It is mostly produced in the resinous trichomes of the Cannabis flowers, while smaller concentrations of CBD can be found on the stalk and leaves of the plant.
The endocannabinoid system is the collection of cannabinoid receptors, endocannabinoids and enzymes responsible for our body’s homeostasis. Endocannabinoids are natural substances, similar to cannabinoids, produced within our bodies. The two most studied endocannabinoids are Anandamide and 2-AG. The two most studied cannabinoid receptors are CB1 and CB2. CB1 receptors are located mostly in the brain and CB2 receptors are located throughout the immune system.
